Food, Water & Dietary Requirements

Can I cook my own food at the campsites, and what equipment do I need?

Yes, at most campsites you can prepare your own food, but only in the designated cooking areas. These areas generally do not provide cooking equipment, so you must bring your own stove, compatible fuel, cookware and utensils.

Cooking inside tents or anywhere outside the designated areas is prohibited because of the park’s strict fire regulations.

Chileno is the exception: the use of camping stoves is not permitted there. If you are staying at Chileno, plan your meals accordingly and bring food that does not require cooking or reserve meals in advance.

Some refugios may provide a limited amount of hot water for tea or coffee, but this should not be relied on for preparing your own meals.
