Departure from Puerto Natales at 6:30 AM toward Torres del Paine National Park, passing estancias and open pampas.
After leaving luggage at the refugio, hikers enter Ascencio Valley, ascending to Windy Pass, then continuing through lenga forest and crossing small streams.
The final stretch climbs steeply over a terminal moraine, rewarding hikers with views of the iconic Towers.
Weather permitting, the morning begins with the orange glow illuminating the Towers at dawn. Hikers trek through an ancient beech forest where woodpeckers and puma tracks may be spotted.
This is the easiest section, following a well-marked trail with gentle incline and distant views of Cerro Paine Chico, ending at Serón Camp in the park's northeastern sector.
Depending on the season, hikers admire orchids, calceolarias, violets, and blooming oxalis. The trek around Lake Paine offers breathtaking views of Cerro Escudo and Cerro Cabeza del Indio, where an indigenous profile appears naturally carved in rocks.
The stunning Lake Dickson, fed by one of the border glaciers between Argentina and Chile, marks the destination.
Hikers trek through some of the park's oldest beech forests, following gently rolling trails alongside the Los Perros River.
Stunning views of mountains, waterfalls, and lush vegetation accompany the journey. A suspension bridge crosses the river, leading to a terminal moraine with a crystalline lagoon below. A final 30-minute hike brings hikers to Los Perros Campsite.
Note: this campsite lacks hot showers and standard sanitary facilities.
The most challenging day features demanding trails and variable weather. Hikers ascend to John Garner Pass at 1,200 meters, experiencing strong Patagonian winds and views of Grey Glacier and the still-unexplored Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
The trail descends through forests of fallen trees beneath towering granite walls of the Olguín Range. Approaching Grey Glacier, hikers may witness ice calving events.
The day begins at Grey Glacier's foot with unbeatable views; with luck, massive ice chunks calve into the lake.
Optional activities include hiking to the Grey Glacier lookout, ice trekking with crampons, or kayaking across Grey Lake around icebergs.
The trail toward Paine Grande passes through forests and rivers with panoramic Southern Patagonian Ice Field views. The descent leads to Laguna de los Patos, where southern steamer ducks may be spotted.
The final day features a challenging hike into the Paine Massif's heart. After breakfast, a winding trail leads to the French River.
At French Valley's entrance, a gradual one-hour ascent reveals a hanging glacier at the valley's top, reaching Le Plateau viewpoint.
The return hike follows the same trail back to Paine Grande, where a catamaran crosses Lake Pehoé, with transfer to Puerto Natales completing the adventure.
