After enjoying an energizing breakfast at your hotel, you will begin the exciting journey to the Base of Torres del Paine. Early in the morning, you will head towards the National Park, making your way to the Reserva Cerro Paine, where the trail begins. Before starting the hike, the guide will provide key instructions and ensure the group is equipped with everything needed, including trekking poles and winter gear such as crampons and gaiters.
The initial ascent, lasting about an hour, will take you along a zigzag path that reveals the first views of the Ascencio Valley. You will continue through a lenga forest along the Ascencio River, surrounded by spectacular views of Cerro Almirante Nieto. Your adventure begins early with a shared transfer that will take you to the spectacular Torres del Paine National Park. Along the way, you will be captivated by the region’s unparalleled landscapes, featuring towering mountains, expansive valleys, and shimmering lakes. Upon arrival at Hotel Grey, you will check in and prepare for a one-of-a-kind experience: the Grey III Navigation. This journey across Grey Lake will bring you close to the awe-inspiring Grey Glacier, where you will marvel at its mesmerizing blue hues and the majestic icebergs floating in its waters. This unforgettable excursion will take you to the heart of the iconic Grey Sector, one of the park’s most astonishing natural treasures.
The hike to Refugio Paine Grande immerses you in spectacular Patagonian landscapes. Early on, you will enjoy views of the Southern Ice Field and icebergs floating in Lake Grey. The trail ascends through mountainous forest to a windy viewpoint of Grey Glacier, then continues toward Laguna Los Patos before descending through a narrow, windy valley to Refugio Paine Grande. Dinner awaits at the refuge.
Today’s hike is a round trip starting and ending at Paine Grande Lodge, so getting an early start is essential. After breakfast, pick up your box lunch and head toward the Italiano Camp ranger station to begin the ascent into the French Valley. You will pass large rocks and a lush forest to reach the stunning French Plateau viewpoint, with views of Los Cuernos, turquoise lagoons, and the hanging glaciers on Paine Grande’s eastern face. After lunch and rest, descend the same trail back to Italiano Camp and continue to Paine Grande Lodge.
Enjoy breakfast at Refugio Paine Grande and request your box lunch. Explore the surroundings before starting your return along the Las Carretas trail. Once you reach the administrative area, a private transfer will take you back to Puerto Natales, concluding your experience.
